Your local computer needs to have X-Windows client software to use SeqLab. You may find our Sequence Analysis Guide helpful.
[edit] From Microsoft Windows + putty + cygwin/X
- Install cygwin/X
- initializing graphics
- Install SSH client putty.
- Get putty from the URL: Putty for windows.
- Spawn SeqLab:
- Start a cygwin terminal.
- Once the cygwin terminal is open, type: startx. This will open a white xterm window.
- Open putty.
- In the 'Host Name' box, type: gsaf.unmc.edu and make sure that port 22 is selected.
- On the left hand side, in the Category section, select Connection->SSH->X11. On the new window, select the 'Enable X11 Forwarding' checkbox.
- Click the 'Open' button at the bottom to create an SSH connection to gsaf.unmc.edu
- Once connected, type: seqlab &
[edit] From Mac OS X
To use SeqLab from Mac OS X you'll need X11, which is not in Mac OS X by default, but you can add it for free.

Install X11 from your system install DVD disk 1. It is amazingly well hidden, so the easiest thing to do is
- Finder => File => Find => Volume "Mac OS X Install Disc 1" => search for "X11"
Double click X11User.pkg to install it. If you want, install X11SDK.pkg too while you're in there.
X11 now lives in Macintosh HD => Applications => Utilities => X11.
Launch X11, then type:
$ ssh -X gsaf.unmc.edu
> /usr/openwin/bin/xclock # verify X11 is working
> source /etc/login.sys # If you didn't get a
# Welcome to the WISCONSIN PACKAGE
# splash screen
> seqlab
