Timeline:

  • 1982: Genetics Computer Group (GCG) created as a part of the University of Wisconsin of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center. The company's primary product is The Wisconsin Suite of molecular biology tools.
  • 1989: The Genetics Computer Group (GCG) becomes a private company. Oxford Molecular Group, Ltd. (OMG) founded in Oxford, UK.
  •  ????: Accelrys took over GCG as a commercial product. UNMC's licenses were purchased during this period.
  • 2007 July 1: Accelrys announces the discontinuation of GCG effective June 30, 2008.
  • 2008: A petition for Accelrys to release the source code is launched and discussed on bionet.software
